DIY e cig liquid recipe; what is PG400 and how to refill your e cig

Being a smoker, and of course this being the beginning of a new year, I’ve decided to try the e cig to see if it can help me quit smoking all together. I’ve heard it helps immensely and much better than just quitting cold turkey, or even trying the patch or the gum.

I actually tried a friend’s e cigarette and it wasn’t bad at all. In fact, the “smoke” inhaled nicely and was a sweet tobacco taste…actually tasted better than my usual cigarettes. The only down fall of these is they are a bit heavier than holding a normal cigarette, and you’ve got to have at least 2 battery pieces (not the filter part of the e cig, but the end part). This will ensure that you always have one at the ready while charging the other one.

Anyway, while perusing the internet for e cig kits and the like I came across a site that sells a multitude of e cigs…and can all be customized, from the filter, the atomizer, the battery, the chargers, even the little lights that light up when you take a drag at the end. Cool!

So, while looking up information about them I saw a guy on ebay selling a DIY e cig liquid recipe for $5 + $1 sh/handing and thought, “if he can sell the recipe there should be a way I could find it on the net somewhere”, and sure enough, I found one explaining all the ins and outs of making your own e cig liquid so you can refill your cartridges and save wads of $$$$$$.

So without further ado…here’s a bunch of great information for you all about the e cig, the e cig liquid, how to make it and how to refill your cartridges.

Oh, and just to make this clear…I am in NO WAY associated with e-cig.com or affiliated with them. Nor do I receive any money from them. This is just me talking about e-cigs and the info I found about them to share with you!

All of this information is from the Electronic Cigarette or e-cig.com

What is e-liquid?

E-liquid is used for topping off your electronic cigarette.  Think of e-liquid as the tobacco in a real cigarette.  Once the tobacco is gone, you reach for another cigarette.  When you have “vaped” all of your liquid you will notice that the taste changes.  Your e-cig should always have enough  so that your vaping experience is uninterrupted.

How much e-liquid do I need?

This varies among individual use, but most people tend to use 50-80 ml of e-liquid per month.  If you are a light smoker, you may use even less  than that.

What strength of e-liquid do I need?

Generally people that smoke a pack or more a day start off with 24 mg e-liquid and people who smoke less than a pack a day use the 16 mg e-liquid.

What is a throat hit?

A throat hit is the feeling in the back of a smokers throat when they take a drag. Our e-liquid has a great throat hit which simulates the smoking of  a real cigarette. Generally the lower MG you choose the lower the throat hit.Another factor that weighs heavily on a good throat hit is the model of electronic cigarette you are using if you have a poorly made e-cig chances are you will never get the hit you are looking for. The E8 and E9 electronic cigarettes compliment our E-liquid perfectly!

What is the difference between VG, BEST  and PG400 E-liquid?

The two main types of e-liquid are known as PG Propylene Glycol – used in food flavorings and also in fog machines at nightclubs to produce the smoke appearance and VG Vegetable Glycerin which is more syrupy and is  derived from vegtables. Generally the PG  has a better throat hit and flavor than VG  while VG can produce a little more vapor. PG E-liquid is the most common e-liquid on the market today.

You can select Vegetable Glycerin (VG), PG400 or Best Mix  as your E-Liquid base. PG is made from animal and/or petroleum-based oils, VG is made strictly from plant oils. PEG400 is a low molecular weight grade of polyethylene glycol. It is a clear, colorless, viscous liquid. Due in part to its very very low toxicity, PEG 400 is widely used in a variety of pharmaceutical formulations.

Best Mix is mixed with VG and PG400, for having the best smoking result. All our E-Liquid bases are made from only pharmaceutical grade without allergens.

VG, PG400 or Best Mix give you some healthier alternatives. We are using the highest quality of E-Liquid Bases to ensure your maximum safety.

DIY Your Own E-Liquid!

Electronic Cigarette Liquid is just water, Propylene Glycol (PG) or Vegetable Glycerin (VG), flavorings and some percentage of pure nicotine or some other optional additives. You can make yourself your own E-Liquid easily with our E-Liq Materials to save your money and to have your own unique flavor.

Propylene Glycol (PG) or Vegetable Glycerin (VG) are commonly used organic compound that are recognized as generally safe by the Food and Drug Administration. They are used in food coloring, and flavoring, as an additive to keep food, medicines and cosmetics moist, and in machines that simulate smoke as well as an ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash. In E-Cig, Propylene Glycol (PG) or Vegetable Glycerin (VG) function to provide the vapor mist that looks like smoke and to suspend flavor.

Somebody may be allergic with Propylene Glycol (PG). In this case, it is better to use Vegetable Glycerin (VG).

For making your own electronic cigarette liquid, what you need are the following:

1. Propylene Glycol or Vegetable Glycerin: You need to have FOOD GRADE Propylene Glycol (PG) or Vegetable Glycerin (VG) as we provide here. The Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin are the ingredients that creates the visible smoke/fog. In fact, this is the ingredient in smoke machine fluid that creates the smoke/fog.
2. Distilled Water:  Filtered drinkable water is OK. Other water, such as tap water has too many chemicals to make it healthy to vaporize into your lungs.
3. Flavorings: You need to have high temperature resistance and water soluble flavorings as we provide here. Other flavorings which have only room temperature resistance and contains either oil or sugars may not be suitable for smoking in a personal vaporizer.
4. Optional additives: such as herbs, tobacco or whatever additives for tobacco and herbal recipes.

For your convenience, here we provide you these basic E-Liq Materials and you can DIY your own E-Liquid to save your money and to have your own unique flavor.

The E-Liquid composition may be variable with these base ingredient PG or VG and with the E-Liquid Flavorings. Normally you can put in the following compositions for zero nicotine E-Liquid as an example:
* 15% Water
* 15% Flavoring
* 70% Vegetable Glycerin or Propylene Glycol.

You can also add some nicotine inside, as the following composition normally for instance:
* 10% Water
* 10% Flavoring
* 20% 24mg Commercial Nicotine Liquid
* 60% Vegetable Glycerin or Propylene Glycol

For thicker smoke, use less water. While you are using E-Cig in higher temperarue environment or hot season, use less water. If making a solution with additives, then leave out the water and use either a few drops of additive solution or more depending on strength and taste. You will have to experiment!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are making a nicotine based liquid, there are some things you need to keep in mind. Nicotine is a poison. Too much can be very toxic. Nicotine is an alkaloid found in certain plants, predominantly tobacco, and in much lower quantities in tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and green peppers.  When absorbed in small amounts, whether from cigarettes, cigars or E-Cig, nicotine can cause stimulation, a feeling of relaxation, calmness, and alertness. The effects of nicotine can last from minutes to hours. The carcinogenic properties of nicotine in a standalone form (i.e., separated from smoking or chewing tobacco) have not been evaluated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, However current available literature indicates that nicotine in standalone form does not promote the development of cancer in healthy tissue and has no mutagenic properties.

How to Refill your e cig

Injection Method
Materials needed
: E-LiquidSyringe or Injector

The best tool to use for refilling electronic cigarette cartridges and to avoid getting e-liquid all over the place is a syringe. By using a syringe with a need, you can disperse the e-liquid evenly along the cartridge filler. A syringe also makes it easier for you to extract e-liquid from a bottle. We have the most complete line of Syringes for all your e-liquid refilling needs with the best prices. We are using all these Syringes for our manufacturing in the Cartridges as well as in the E-Liquid flavorings.

How to Refill E-Cig Cartridges with a Syringe:

Step 1: Take the White Rubber Cap off of the end of the cartridge using tweezer or a small screwdriver.

Step 2: Use your syringe and remove e liquid from your bottle. Then, insert the syringe needle into the middle of your e cig cartridge filler until you are near the bottom of the cartridge. For two-piece Cartomizer, you will want to make sure you avoid damaging the atomizer and insert the syringe needle aiming for the mesh that is inside of the cartomizer tube. Depress your syringe plunger slowly while moving the needle. The goal is to ensure an even fill of your e cig cartridge without overfilling.

Step 3: Replace the Electronic Cigarette cartridge rubber cap.

Step 4: Once the cartridge is filled, cap it for later use or install on your electronic cigarette.

Step 5: Put any left-over e liquid back into your e-liquid bottle. You can also put the cap on the syringe and let it remain in the syringe to top off additional cartridges.

Step 6: Wash your syringe by filling it with fresh water and flushing the syringe several times.

E-Liquid Injector

The following video shows you how to refill the E-Liquid in the Cartomizers for any new 2-pieces E-Cig, such as E-Cigarette E8 or E-Cigarette E9:

When you inhale and have some burnt smell or less smoke, it is the time to refill or replace your Cartridge or Cartomizer. It is better to refill the Cartridge or Cartomizer about 5-6 times total. After that point, the polyester may begin to be damaged and can cause some damage to the atomizer for working well.

  1. I found this article about e-liquid most informative as I am new to the world of vapor. I am 58 years old and have been a smoker for 50 of those years. What I wanted to know was if anyone has come up with a legal substitute for illegal drugs that may have medical benifit for people living in chronic pain. I would love to be able to vaporize my back pain away
